| Meals on Wheels’ financial support is heavily dependent upon funding from York County, consisting nearly 58 percent of our revenues. The remaining funds come from collections received from recipients receiving meals and from the donations that we are so grateful for. The financial support from the county does not fully cover the cost of meals or other administrative expenses. Although fuel prices have gone up tremendously, the majority of our cadres of volunteer drivers do not request any reimbursement for mileage or fuel.
This unselfish devotion allows much needed revenue to be directed back to providing meals. As a result of community donations, Meals on Wheels continues to offer a bag of non-perishable breakfast items once every other month, at no additional cost, to recipients. By supplementing this low-cost breakfast option with hot daily lunches, Meals on Wheels helps to ensure senior citizens are meeting their daily minimum nutrient requirements.
