The real heroes of the Meals on Wheels program are the volunteer drivers, who are the backbone of our operations. Volunteer participation and diversity is an integral part of the Meals on Wheels program. Many of our drivers, senior citizens themselves, provide the face-to-face contact with the recipients to ensure they get their meal. The drivers day-to-day contact with the recipient contributes as much to the recipient's emotional health, as the balanced diet does for their nutritional well-being. Despite the increase in fuel costs, these drivers devote their time and money again and again to make a difference in our senior citizen's lives.
York County Meals on Wheels has a continuous need for volunteers to assist with transporting the meals to recipients five days a week. Can you spare one hour, one morning a month? Would your club or church group be interested in being responsible for one route, one day a week?
